In last night’s New York movie premiere of Daddy Yankee’s “Talento de Barrio,” we saw a struggling Slim Shady wannabe in a bad “8 Mile”-”The Godfather” concept.
A concept that just stays shy of convincing us that the reggaeton industry makes good movies, of course.
But like the Hip-Hop industry, however, “Talento de Barrio” has all of the elements of a fairly decent action movie, yet doesn’t really meet the expectations of those that have an eye for good stuff (though the general consensus is that it is very likely that fans will flock to the theatres just for pure curiosity).
Overall, the movie had pretty good police car chasings, a record-breaking number of bullets fired (which by the way, sounded more like paintball shots than the real thing), blood and death, corruption and raw nastiness of the underground world of drug dealing.
Not “City of God”, of course, but had some intense and moving scenes.
Yet, not close enough to pay the big bucks when “gasolina” is a priority for many nowadays.
Another great post, pass the salsita, you are on a roll…
