Was Carlos Arroyo Victim of Police Brutality?

A photo released by the Coral Gables Police Department in Miami, shows Puerto Rican basketball player Carlos Arroyo with bruises obtained allegedly when he resisted arrest Friday morning, according to statement released by the police.

According to the Sun Sentinel, the Miami Heat’s point guard resisted arrest for driving suspiciously slow in a highway, affecting the flow of the traffic.

The police report indicates that Arroyo stepped out of his vehicle in the middle of the road to confront the officers, creating a traffic jam that affected the morning commute for thousands of riders.

It seems that during his arrest Arroyo may have been hurt though the police has not confirmed where the bruises came from, raising concerns that the police may have used excessive force.

“We are aware of the traffic stop involving Carlos Arroyo this morning,” said Miami Heat’s president Pat Riley in a statement. ”While we fully support our players, this is a pending legal matter and we will have no comment at this time.”

Arroyo is an egocentric, selfish idiot and an embarrassment to Puerto Ricans everywhere. It’s about time someone roughed him up and talked some sense into him. Those scratches on his neck and face look suspiciously like what one would see as a result of a domestic dispute, though. And why exactly was a detective following Arroyo in the first place? Something smells funny here. It’s possible the police were at fault, but I suspect there’s far more to this story and it will result in – once again – an NBA team realizing Carlos’s considerable talents as an athlete are simply not worth the hassle. And he’ll continue to waste the opportunities afforded to him by the NBA.
